Yesterday shoppers all across the country raced to Aldi stores to get their hands on the popular Kevin the Carrot toys.

However, another cuddly teddy has now hit the shelves - and its guaranteed to be the next must have item in the run up to Christmas.

They are called Rang-Tan's and have been inspired by this year's controversial Iceland Christmas advert.

The frozen food retailer's festive add - which has been banned from appearing on TV - tells the story of a young girl who finds an orphaned orangutan in her bedroom.

The commercial had to be launched on social media after it was banned by regulators due to its political nature - though it quickly went viral and has reportedly been seen by more than 50 million people.

And now supermarket firm Iceland are allowing fans of the advert to help raise money for the cause themselves - and get their hands on an adorable plush orangutan of their own in the process.

The Deeside-based retailer has now launched an exclusive cuddly toy so that children, and adults, across the country can welcome a Rang-Tan into their own homes this Christmas.

The Rang-Tan teddy costs just £5 but buying one will have some incredible benefits for the beautiful creature it is based on.

All profits from the sale of the products go towards supporting the International Animal Rescue charity, to help rehabilitate orphaned orangutans in West Borneo.

The advert, which was made in collaboration with environmental activism group Greenpeace, highlighted the damage caused by the destruction of rainforests at the hands of palm oil growers - showing the harrowing fate of endangered orangutans.

During the commercial, the baby orangutan shows the girl a digger ripping up trees, and a voice-over says: "There’s a human in my forest and I don’t know what to do.

"He took away my mother and I’m scared he’ll take me too."

The popular commercial, titled Rang-Tan, ends with: "Dedicated to the 25 orangutans we lose every day."

The advert comes after Iceland announced in April that they would remove palm oil from all own-label food by the end of the year, a commitment celebrated by the launch of the adorable toy.

Richard Walker, Managing Director at Iceland, told The Mirror: "Our commitment to help protect the home of orangutans remains extremely close to our hearts.

"We are proud to be encouraging consumers to make more sustainable choices ahead of the Christmas season and although we were hugely disappointed by the decision not to clear our Christmas advert, we have been overwhelmed by the response from across the world.

“The Rang-tan character embodies the plight of all orangutans and it has been amazing to see how people have taken to him and his story and engaged on a scale we could never have anticipated."
