Opting to have corrective vision surgery can really change your life.

After a couple of minutes of surgery, you can be free from glasses or contact lenses and have the freedom to live life without worrying about your vision.

To find out how it can change lives, we spoke with Melissa Favre-Lorraine who opted to have her surgery at Laser Vision Scotland.

1. You’ll wonder why you didn’t have it done sooner

“I’ve never liked wearing glasses and used to wear contact lenses all the time,” said Melissa.

She was happy to wear contact lenses until her eyes began to reject the lenses.

Melissa added: “I started to develop an allergy to the lenses or the solution which was very painful. I had new lenses and solution prescribed but nothing seemed to work, so when it was time to have my glasses renewed, I started to think of having laser eye surgery done.”

Melissa is amazed with her results. She said: “I forget that I ever used to wear glasses or lenses.

“I had my last check up a few months ago and have 20/20 vision.”

2. Listen to advice from your friends

Friends are known to tell the truth, so if they tell you they’ve had a good experience with laser correction surgery, believe them.

Melissa said: “Three of my friends have had eye surgery and they all recommended it to me saying it was totally worth it.”

People had tips to help Melissa on the day. She added: “My boss told me to bring a cuddly toy with me, which I did, and I was asked to take a few days off work and to take it easy after the surgery.”

3. It might be a little painful

With any surgery you should expect to feel a bit of pain post surgery, but during the procedure you shouldn’t feel a thing.

Melissa said: “The surgeon put lots of drops in my eyes and I was asked to look at the light. I didn’t feel a thing and it only took a few minutes.”

Post surgery was where Melissa felt the most discomfort. She added: “I was in pain for a few days after which is common when you have Lasik which I did.

“People who get Lasek however don’t experience the pain afterwards, but after the surgery my vision improved over the following week.”

4. Don’t go in search of a cheap deal

Having laser eye surgery is not the time to go for the cheapest option.

Melissa spent £3000 on her surgery and read up on reviews from previous patients.

She said: “Don't try to go for something cheap. Check reviews and choose a company that has a good reputation.

“I was going to choose a different company originally, but I saw in the reviews that they were very pushy and I didn't want to have to deal with someone who would give me a sales pitch.

“I also saw that everyone highly recommended Jonathan Ross from Laser Vision Scotland which made me feel more confident.”
