Steam Whistle Brewing Selected for CIPH National Water Wise Award

“Good Beer Folks” committed to investing in Water Conservation

TORONTO, April 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) has presented Steam Whistle with its National Water Wise Award for the brewery’s commitment to water conservation and purification in its core operations.

Steam Whistle Brewing Tapped for CIPH Water Wise Award
Steam Whistle Brewing of Toronto, represented by Director of Marketing Tim McLaughlin (middle), is the latest recipient of the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating Water Wise Award. CIPH Program Manager Matt Wiesenfeld and Stephanie Steiner, Director of Sales at Dahl Valves, were on hand to present the award that recognizes efforts demonstrating water conservation, stewardship and best practices.

“One of the key ingredients in Steam Whistle’s success is clearly the impressive approach towards green initiatives throughout its operations,” says Joe Senese, CIPH Chairman. “The leadership team and their employees make an effort every day to do something positive for the planet. Being green is truly a part of their culture.”

Steam Whistle recently launched a new program to conserve as much water as possible through the installation of water-saving equipment like its new bottle washer, keg filling line and shower heads on the packaging line.

Beyond water, the brewery’s environmental efforts also include:

  • Green packaging
  • Using Bullfrog power
  • Bio Diesel fuels in delivery trucks
  • Tapping into Enwave’s Deep Water Cooling for temperature control
  • Energy efficient equipment and lighting
  • Waste diversion

While spring water is used in brewing the beer, Steam Whistle’s conservation efforts are focused on its use of municipal tap water in operations to wash bottles, cans, kegs, tanks and floors of the packaging line, as well as water in the office, administration and hospitality areas.

“We’ve examined every aspect of our business to minimize our environmental impacts,” explains Cam Heaps, CEO of Steam Whistle. “We’re also working with water quality experts to improve the purity of our wastewater from operations.”

The CIPH award program was developed to recognize outstanding efforts to improve our relationship with water. Past recipients of the CIPH Water Wise Award include WaterAid Canada, Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre, le Fonds Éco IGA, Fisheries & Marine Institute of Memorial University, and Co-op Refinery Complex.
